The Challenge
EasyConnectKE provides home and office internet across Kenya. Their billing software was slow and unreliable — the same pain point that dogs competitors like Centipid. They needed a dependable platform to manage both hotspot and PPPoE subscribers, with one non-negotiable: a customer who pays for hotspot access expects to be online the second the payment clears, not minutes later.
What I Built
I built a complete ISP billing and network-control platform — subscriber management, payments, and router-level network admission working as one system. Customers pay over M-Pesa STK Push; the platform detects the payment in real time and grants WiFi access instantly, tracks usage, and expires the session automatically when it runs out. Admins watch live revenue and subscriber numbers from a single dashboard.
- Hotspot and PPPoE subscriber management
- M-Pesa STK Push payment integration
- Real-time offline-payment detection that grants WiFi access instantly
- Automatic session expiry when a subscriber's usage runs out
- Router-level network admission control (WireGuard → FreeRADIUS)
- Admin dashboard with live revenue and subscriber metrics
Built With
The core challenge was getting three independent systems — M-Pesa STK Push, the billing engine, and the router/network layer — to talk to each other reliably in real time. A customer paying for offline hotspot access has to be admitted to the network immediately, with accurate usage tracking and automatic expiry, every single time — often over flaky router connectivity. Sequencing payment → billing → network admission so it never misfires was the hardest system I've built to date. When WireGuard proved brittle for admission control at scale, I migrated the whole layer to FreeRADIUS.
