The Challenge
SoleCity sells shoes, and needed a storefront that could keep up — fast, easy to navigate, and good-looking enough to make browsing feel effortless. Under the surface, it also had to handle the unglamorous part of retail correctly: never selling the same last pair twice.
What I Built
I built a full e-commerce platform with a checkout designed to remove friction — guests can buy without creating an account first; the system provisions one for them automatically and emails their password. Behind it runs an Amazon-style order-to-warehouse pipeline: payment → order → inventory check → stock lock on the last unit → payment confirmation → order confirmation → notification, with RabbitMQ absorbing bulk order volume. A full admin dashboard handles product and order management.

The hard part was the order-to-warehouse pipeline. Handling bulk orders while running real-time inventory checks — and locking stock the moment inventory hits its last unit — is what stops two customers from buying the same pair. Getting that sequence right under load, so the store never oversells, was the core engineering problem.
